Make some cute autumn gnome peg dolls
IPlease meet the Autumn Gnomes… aren’t they sweet little fellows? For those
of you who want to make some too, here is a tutorial on how to make these sweet
little Autumn Gnomes that made up of balsa wood from peg people, felt and a couple of wee felted
acorns.
Kitty was my helper. She chose three gorgeous Autumn colors from my plentiful stack of wool felt. If you want to buy some for yourself, you can find a great selection from one of my Magic Sponsors, A Child’s Dream Come True.
First, we made the little cloak. Kitty took a piece of white paper and cut it into just the right sized rectangle to measure all around the peg dolls body. Then, she held her ‘template’ on the piece of felt and cut around the edges. She then used the hot glue gun to stick the cloak onto her doll. Of course, for a neater doll, you can sew the cloak together and then stick it onto the peg doll… but, Kitty was in a mood to play and wanted her doll faster than sewing would allow… hot glue worked just fine.
Now for the little gnome hat. We cut out a triangle, making sure it was just the right length to fit over the peg dolls head when glued together.
Then, using the hot glue gun again, we glued the two other edges of the
triangle together and, when the glue was dried, trimmed off the ‘globby’ bits
with a pair of sharp scissors.
We put a dab of glue onto the inside of the hat and stuck it onto the gnomes head.
Isn’t he a cutie!
Kitty then chose three of the smallest little acorn caps she could find in my stash and glued colorful felt balls into them to make tiny felted acorns.
And then we stuck the acorns onto our Autumn Gnomes.
Three little mischief makers they are!
Both Kitty and Teddy are enthralled! They love these gorgeous little gnomes made with their very own hands.
Have you added some new crafted goodies to your Autumn nature table too?

Cutest fashion balsa wooden spoon dolls
saw the cutest fashion balsa wooden spoon dolls a while ago by the talented Lucy of
Craftberry Bush and just knew I’d have to make some for myself. Just a warning
though, these are a little addictive to create!
You can buy wooden spoons from shops like Create My Fete and then use your pencils, fabric scraps, sequins, buttons and whatever else in your stash to make your own gorgeous gals (or guys!).
Of course I had to give them their own personalities, so without further ado, I’d like to introduce the ladies to you…
You can even make your own wooden doll bunting to display your ladies.
Just put a dab from your hot glue gun onto the back of their heads and attach to string.
Hang with washi tape and you’ll have your own gallery of cute fashions.
Aren’t they the cutest! This would be a great holiday craft with the kids don’t you think?
I’d love to see your dolls if you make some too.
And if you’re after the original fashion wooden doll DIY, you can find it on Skip to My Lou. Lucy’s detailed instructions are perfect.

Embroider On Wood - Basic Steps
Step 1
Measure the inside surface of your trays. Draw a rectangle on Balsa, at the exact size of your measurements. Cut it out, using your rotary cutter and ruler. Find center on each side of your Balsa rectangle sheet and mark it. Hoop a layer of strong cutaway backing, and mark the center of sewing field (like on our photo). Since we already know at least one great reason Why to embroider on Balsa wood, let's get straight to the How-To part. But first - take a look how our embroidered trays look:
Step 2
Apply a generous amount of temporary adhesive spray on all hooped cutaway surface and then stick the Balsa wood over it. Make sure it's accurately centered. Let the spray dry for 10 - 15 minutes. Place 2 layers of THIN water-soluble topping over the Balsa. You may secure it in place by applying spray adhesive on a few small spots.
Step 3
Embroider perfectly centered, LOOSE design, at the lowest speed of your embroidery machine. We've used designs in cross stitch technique, 14 and 16 counts. Their density is appropriate for Balsa. Denser designs may create problems. If the design you pick up is too dense, it may be just "cut out" of Balsa wood during the embroidery process. Also, be sure to AVOID designs with straight edges / frames, especially when these edges are in the same direction of wood growth. If you do this, the embroidered design will be "cut out" of the wood, too. When the design is ready, take the hoop out and very carefully tear away the topping, one layer after another (NOT together). If you notice any difficulty in tearing - use small scissors. Just be sure not to damage the wood, and stitches.
Step 4
Unhoop the cutaway backing. Place the backing & embroidered Balsa on working surface and cut away the edges of cutaway exactly according to the edges of Balsa sheet. To do this, you may use rotary cutter. Then, carefully glue the remaining edges of cutaway to Balsa, using white plastic glue. Put the embroidered Balsa sheet under press to dry. Let it dry for a few hours.
Step 5
Glue the embroidered Balsa to inside surface of your tray, using the same white craft glue. And again, put the project under press to dry. It should dry for a few hours. When ready, you may cover the tray with translucent vanish and add some kind of decorations, if you want.

To Enjoy This Golf Weddings
when jodie and nathan came to me for design they knew what they wanted -
something fairly rustic to fit the style of the venue but at the same time they
wanted it to feel elegant, chic and classic...
so to keep with the rustic vibe we used khaki woven linens and dark brown wood chairs, along with gray reindeer moss, balsa wood flowers, scabiosa pods, succulents and crochet ribbons/laces...
but by arranging the flowers in silver urns and julep cups, adding in mercury glass candlesticks and tailoring the florals into fluffy white masses, we were able to ensure that the wedding had a classic and elegant feel to it as well...
overall, i thought the wedding came out completely lovely...and so did the clients! in fact, when jodie first saw the ceremony site she totally welled up with tears and started fanning her face to draw them back in...it was such a priceless moment and reminds me why i love what i do!
boutonnieres made of balsa wood flowers, scabiosa pods, silver brunia berries and gray dusty miller leaves...all finished in rustic twine...
jodie's bouquet of creamy balsa wood flowers, white rancunulas, ivory double tulips and white peonies...
i can only think of one word for these guys - DAPPER!! or maybe DASHING! okay that's two words..so sue me...
this was by far the most stylish ring bearer i have ever laid eyes on...seersucker pants, a scull + crossbones tie, navy blazer, jack purcell sneakers and quite a hip haircut!
so we couldn't just give him an ordinary ring bearer pillow...instead he carried a brown wood box filled with cream balsa wood flowers and a cluster of yellow billy balls...
this bad boy took us half a day to complete but it was worth it! we made this "chandelier" completely out of crochet laces, ruffled trims and empty glass mason jars...it looked so rad hanging above the couple as they exchanged their vows during the ceremony!
